Glass Fusing   The studio is transformed from my usual chaos to an organized space that will allow room for 4 students.  These workshops provide a wonderful warm place to introduce people to glass fusing at a beginners level.  You will be learning the basics, what you can and can't do with glass and make something tangible.  I'm there as a helper, guide and passing on hints that make glass cutting, fusing etc. hopefully a little easier, for those who want to take it further.  Often, just seeing another artists studio will give you an idea for your own.  How to and how not to are just as important in the set up as are the skills that you take away and the piece that you create.

Glass Fusing Workshop- $175.00/person includes water taxi to and from Piers Island from Canoe Cove Marina, students will design and assemble one large glass piece that will be fused and then slumped into a desired shape in a second firing.  Options are different shaped plates, free-standing sconces, sculptures or bowls.  Glass size of project up to approximate total of 100 square inches (10 inches x 10 inches).  Based on 4 per class/limit of 4 .  Finished pieces will be ready one week later and can be picked up at Muse Winery or arrangements can be made for shipping for an additional fee.

Kiln Carving Workshop - $200.00/person includes water taxi to and from Piers Island from Canoe Cove Marina, students will design and assemble one large glass piece that will be fused and then slumped into a desired shape in a second firing.  Students should have some knowledge of glass fusing, but it is not mandatory.  With the smaller class size there is time for quite a bit of one on one, but beware we may drift into  "techie term talk".  We use more expensive glass in this workshop and additional materials that add up in cost, hence the higher course fee cost.  While we are working with the same 10 x 10 size, the glass value is double.  Students leave with an info package complete with firing schedules, material sourcing and MSDS information.

Private Workshops - For one on one instruction if you want to leapfrog on the learning curve!  It gives you a chance to see a studio set up, learn the basics, the possibilities, try different tools, come with or without a project in mind.  By appointment only.

Offered Tuesday or Friday only:

A morning session would be 3 hours= $375,  includes cost of transport & $75 value of glass.

Fall/Winter afternoon session – 4 hours- $475 includes cost of transport & $100 value of glass.

Spring/Summer afternoon session- 5 hours- $575 includes cost of transport & $125 glass value.

If you wanted to work on a specific project and required more glass, or specialized materials for the project you could pay extra for the additional.  Fee would include 2 firings, a fuse and a slump.  A Private water taxi can be booked for other days for an additional $75 charge.

Ceramics Painting    Release your inner Picasso!  Fantastic bisque pieces for painting are in - you'll find  The Piers Island Studio is a wonderful place to while away an afternoon painting, learning, with a little adventure thrown in.  You'll see ceramics painting decorating the walls outside our home that have weathered storms and salt spray for years.

Ceramics Workshop- $100  includes water taxi to and from Piers Island from Canoe Cove Marina,  one  bisque  plate, bowl or 4 tiles to paint, glaze paints, over glaze and firing.  Food safe glazes.  Based on 5 per class/limit of 5 .  Finished pieces will be ready one week later and can be picked up at Muse Winery or arrangements can be made for shipping for an additional fee.

Jewelry Making

Quite frankly, I'm addicted to stones!  Wherever we travel I'm on the hunt for new and interesting stones to incorporate with Steve's beads.  This results in a rather large and wonderful collection!  For me, if it's not incorporated with Steve's handmade glass beads, it's not something I want to sell, but here in these treasures lies fantastic opportunities for someone who would like to make their own necklace or bracelet, their own design, their choice of colours, with a little help on the tricky finishing parts.  If that sounds like something for you...

Jewelry Making   - $50.00 includes water taxi to and from Piers Island from Canoe Cove Marina, stringing material and crimps.  All other materials are charged individually according to choice.  Choose from semi-precious stones, pearls, bamboo coral, brass, silver, glass beads, wooden beads, bone, shells -literally hundreds of choices for your own unique creation.  You'll be wearing your jewelry home at the end of the afternoon!

The workshops will be on Piers Island and will be about 4 hours time from shore to shore.  This will involve journeys across the water by taxi and a little exercise with walking as well.    If you have a group of 5 who would like to do a workshop, let me know your preferred date.  All workshops will be in the afternoon, from about 12:30 to 4:30 pm.
